The North Sinai Governorate has launched a comprehensive security modernization program, replacing traditional sand barriers and temporary barracks at 15 key checkpoints around El-Arish with advanced JOESCO Hesco Barrier systems. These modular, blast-resistant structures will enhance force protection for Egyptian security personnel operating in the region.
The $3.2 million Phase I project addresses persistent vulnerabilities exposed by recent militant attacks. Unlike conventional sandbag walls, the Bastion barriers feature interlocking steel frames filled with locally sourced aggregate, providing superior ballistic protection and rapid deployment capabilities.
“JOESCO’s engineered solutions offer scalable defense for high-risk zones,” stated Capt. Ahmed Mansour, North Sinai Security Spokesperson. “This upgrade aligns with our strategy to counter evolving asymmetric threats.”
Installation commenced on August 15, with completion expected before Ramadan 2024. The systems will be integrated with surveillance towers and vehicle-blocking mechanisms at strategic entry points along the Rafah-El-Arish corridor.
